Guard Chris De La Rosa To Transfer to UMBC

Baltimore--UMBC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe has announced that Chris De La Rosa has signed a grant-in-aid letter and will transfer to UMBC from Siena (N.Y.) College this fall.

 De La Rosa is as 5’9”, 165-lb. guard who competed in 33 of 34 games in his freshman season with the Saints in the 2007-08 campaign. The native of Washington Heights, N.Y. (All Hallows H.S.) may practice with the Retrievers in 2008-09 and can be eligible to compete for three years, beginning with the 2009-10 campaign.

 De La Rosa averaged 2.5 points per game for the 23-11 Saints, the 2007-08 champions of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. He amassed 51 assists while playing 9.5 minutes per game and hit 27 of 60 shots (45.0%) from the field. He produced season bests in scoring (10 pts., 4/4 fg) and assists (five) in a 77-49 win over Canisius on Jan. 21.

 Described as “a slick ball-handler with great leadership skills and mental toughness”, De La Rosa led All Hallows to the final four of the New York City Catholic Championships as a sophomore and a junior. He averaged 15 points and seven assists per game as a senior and earned recognition on the city’s Senior All Star team.
