UMBC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe has announced that Chauncey Gilliam has signed a national letter-of-intent and will attend the university in the fall of 2008.

Gilliam, a 6-4, 215-lb. wing guard/small forward, most recently attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. He averaged 6.2 points per game on a team which lost in the National Prep Championships semifinals to Hargrave Military Academy. The 2007-08 team, which featured eight players who will be attending Division I institutions this coming fall, captured the New England Class A Championship and advanced to the National Final Four, finishing with a school-record 31 victories (31-4).

The Columbia, Md. native competed and produced two outstanding seasons at the Leap Academy in Camden, N.J. in 2005-06 and 2006-07.  He captained the team in both years and helped the squad to a South Jersey title in 2006. In his senior season, Gilliam was named All South Jersey and All State and was nominated as a McDonald’s All American.

Gilliam attended Hammond High School for two years and earned All Howard County honors in his sophomore season of 2004-05.
