Former Marshall Forward Robbie Jackson Transfers to UMBC; Retrievers Sign Philadelphia-Area Post Jacob Wasco

UMBC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe has announced that former Marshall University forward Robbie Jackson has signed a grant-in-aid and will attend UMBC in the fall of 2008.

Jackson will have two years of eligibility remaining and may compete beginning in the 2009-2010 year.

The 6’11”, 260-lb. Aberdeen, Md. native competed for two years for the Thundering Herd. He played in a total of 54 games and started 10 during his tenure. Jackson averaged 2.5 points per game in his freshman season and 2.4 points per game this past year. He also amassed 120 rebounds (2.2 per game) in two seasons and 21 blocked shots in 470 minutes of playing time for the Conference USA school.  Nearly 40 percent of Jackson’s rebounds came off the offensive glass.

He scored a career high of 12 points in a game at UTEP in the 2006-07 season and matched that total against the same Miners’ club on Feb. 20 of this past season.

Jackson attended Aberdeen High School from 2001-2005 and averaged 18 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots per contest. He competed for Prince Avenue Prep in Pickens, S.C. in 2005-06.

 UMBC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe announced today that Jacob Wasco (Philadelphia, Pa./Franklin Learning Center) has signed a national letter-of-intent and will attend UMBC in the fall of 2008.

 

Wasco, a 6’8”, 200-lb. forward, blossomed in his senior season at FLC after a very impressive 2007 summer.  He was named the Most Improved Player in the Greater Philadelphia Summer School comprised of over 40 public and private school teams. He earned Second Team honors at the Hoop Magic Fall Jamboree after a 16-point, 11-rebound effort in the tournament semifinals.

 

In his first full season as a starter this winter, he averaged 11.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the Wildcats. He also shot 62 percent from the floor and 82 percent from the free throw line and earned Honorable Mention honors from the PIAA 3A division.

 

Wasco helped the Wildcats to a 16-6 record and a quarterfinal appearance in the 3A district championships.
