Cambridge, Mass.—UMBC junior forward Darryl Proctor (District Heights, Md./Paul IV/Coppin State) has been named America East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, for games ending January 6, 2008. Proctor posted double-doubles in his first two America East games, both helping UMBC to road wins. He now has double-doubles in three straight games, six on the season and 16 in his career. Proctor was UMBC’s America East Conference Player of the Game in both games and surpassed the 1,000-point plateau (1,018 points/74 games) in his career. Proctor scored 16 points and pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds in the 76-62 win at Stony Brook on Thursday, the most caroms in a game for a Retriever since Andrew Feeley had 16 at James Madison on Nov. 27, 2004. He followed up with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the 86-73 win at New Hampshire on Sunday. Proctor becomes the fourth different Retriever honored this season. Senior forward Cavell Johnson has earned the award twice (Nov. 19, Dec. 23), while guards Ray Barbosa (Nov. 12) and Jay Greene (Dec. 3) each have one player of the week citation.
