Jay Greene Named America East Men's Basketball Player of the Week

12/3/2007

Cambridge, Mass.--Junior guard Jay Greene (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) has been named America East Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for games ending Dec. 2, 2007

Greene has piloted UMBC to a 6-1 start and emerged from an early season scoring drought to spearhead Saturday’s 83-68 come-from-behind win at American. He tied career highs with six 3-pt. field goals (6/10) and 21 points in the win. Greene hit four of six from behind the arc in UMBC’s 49-point second half. He also recorded a season-high 11 assists in the Retrievers’ 84-76 win over Morgan State on Thursday

Greene is averaging a conference-best 7.4 assists per game and has the top assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.71.  He is the third Retriever to win the award in four weeks of competition. Senior guard Ray Barbosa and senior forward Cavell Johnson won the honor in the first two weeks respectively.
