Ray Barbosa Earns America East Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

Cambridge, Mass.—UMBC senior guard Ray Barbosa (Allentown, Pa./William Allen/James Madison) was named the year’s first America East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games ending Nov. 11, 2007.

In his first game in a UMBC uniform, he led the team from 12 points down in the second half with 12 points after the break in the Retrievers’ 81-78 win over Saint Peter’s. Barbosa hit back-to-back three point field goals, then two free throws to help cut a 10-point deficit to four with nine minutes remaining.  He gave the Retrievers the lead for good with two free throws with 1:52 left, then made a layup with 19 seconds left to put UMBC ahead by three points.

Barbosa converted on seven of 11 shots from the floor, five of seven from the line and two of three from behind the arc. He added three assists, two steals and a blocked shot in 34 minutes of action.
