Senior forward Mike Housman, UMBC’s America East Player of the Game, led the Retrievers with 16 points and eight rebounds, hitting eight of 13 shots from the floor. But his counterpart,
UMBC led by as many as eight points, at 20-12, with 8:25 to play in the first half, but settled for a 26-24 lead at intermission. The Retrievers, who had won four of five games when leading at halftime, hit seven of their first nine shots of the second stanza and built a 36-26 lead on a Brian Hodges jumper with 16:28 remaining. But UMBC would miss 15 of its next 16 field goal attempts and the Terriers crept back into the game.
After Hodges hit a pair of free throws with 3:31 remaining,
UMBC is now 0-4 at Case Gymnasium in America East play and 0-6 all-time.
Hodges extended his streak of games in double figures to 11 in a row as he scored 11 points, but hit only four of 16 from the floor. Jay Greene added 10 points for UMBC, but was held to one assist.
UMBC returns to action on Thursday when they host UNH at 7:00 p.m.
