Pennsylvania Native Frank McKnight Signs NLI to Play Men's Basketball at UMBC

11/28/2006

Baltimore, Md.—Guard Frank McKnight (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) has signed a national-letter-of-intent and will attend UMBC and compete in the sport of men’s basketball, it was announced by Retriever Head Coach Randy Monroe.

McKnight is a 6’1”, 175-lb. student-athlete who can play either the point or off-guard position. The southpaw averaged 14 points, six rebounds and five assists per game for Head Coach Kevin McCormick in the 2005-06 season. He played the point guard position last season after two years on the varsity as an off-guard. McKnight earned First Team All (Central) Conference honors and was a Second Team All Delaware County selection by The Daily Times. He led the Cougars to the state quarter-finals, where they fell to the eventual state champions from Lower Merion HS.

“Frank is a very competitive player with a tremendous will to win,” Coach Monroe said. “He is a good shooter, a good passer and will be a very good college basketball player.”

The addition of McKnight will give UMBC at least seven players on the 2007-08 roster that hail from the state of Pennsylvania, including Justin Fry (New Bloomfield), Jay Greene (Whitehall), Chris Seaborn (Philadelphia), Matt Spadafora (Richboro), Thomas Young (Philadelphia) and ’07-’08 eligible transfer Ray Barbosa (Allentown).
