, Conn.-The road woes continued for the UMBC men’s basketball team Wednesday night, as the Retrievers were edged to America East foe Hartford, 75-69, on the Hawks’ home court. With its sixth straight road loss, UMBC falls to 9-15 overall and 5-8 in conference action, while Hartford improves to 11-13 on the season and 7-6 in league play.

The Hawks led by five at halftime, 34-29, but the Retrievers came out strong in the second half and took the lead at 53-52 midway through the period on a basket by Brian Hodges. Hartford took the lead right back before Hodges’ three-pointer put UMBC up, 59-57, with 7:30 to play.

But Hartford would go on a key 7-0 run, sparked by five points in 10 seconds by Kenny Adeleke that would put the Hawks up 64-59 with 5:56 to go in the game, and the Retrievers could never recover. Hartford sweeps the season series from UMBC.

The Hawks shot 59 percent from the floor on 29-of-49 shooting, including 62.5 percent in the second half (15-for-24). The Retrievers shot 44.6 percent on the game.

Adeleke led all scorers with 23 points and 11 rebounds for his 20th double-double of the season. Hodges led UMBC with 17 points, while Jerrell Dinkins added 16 on 7-of-10 shooting. Jay Greene was one shy of his career high with 15 points (6-for-10), and he added five assists and two steals.
