KARACIC, BILAL LEAVE MEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM; SPADAFORA TO RED-SHIRT

1/23/2006

Junior Gordon Karacic and sophomore Rashad Bilal have left the UMBC men’s basketball team, head coach Randy Monroe announced today. Karacic, a 6’11” center, had transferred to UMBC from Northern Oklahoma College this fall, but only competed in one game vs. West Virginia on December 7. The native of Sarajevo, Bosnia has withdrawn from the university. Bilal, a 6’5” swingman, started 18 games as a freshman and averaged 6.5 points per outing, but averaged only 2.1 ppg in 14 games as a reserve this year. The White Plains, New York native is expected to continue his studies at UMBC in the spring before transferring to another school for the 2006-07 academic year. In addition, freshman Matt Spadafora (Richboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) will seek a medical hardship and attempt to red-shirt this season. Spadafora suffered from mononucleosis throughout the month of December and just began to practice with the team last week. He had not appeared in a game this season.
