ZITO EARNS CO-AMERICA EAST CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Senior forward John Zito was named co-America East Conference Player of the Week along with Albany’s Jamar Wilson. Zito posted career highs in scoring and rebounding with 23 points and 14 caroms in UMBC’s 75-65 opening night win over Maryland Eastern Shore. He had accumulated his third career double-double by halftime with 10 points and 10 rebounds. It was his first double-double since his freshman season. The Windsor, Connecticut native recorded a career best five steals vs. LaSalle and remained in double figures with 10 points and tied for team honors with seven rebounds. Zito guarded and was guarded by 2004-05 Atlantic 10’s co-Player of the Year Steven Smith in UMBC’s setback the Explorers.
