MEN’S BASKETBALL COMPLETES CLASS FOR 2005-06 SEASON

Baltimore, MD—UMBC Head Men’s Basketball Coach Randy Monroe has added four student-athletes to complete the incoming class for the 2005-06 season. The newest Retrievers are freshman swingman Matt Spadafora (Philadelphia, Pa.Archbishop Wood), sophomore forward Chris Seaborn (Philadelphia, Pa./John Bartram/New Mexico JC), freshman post Chris Timba (Cameroon/Massanutten (Va.) Military Academy) and junior center Gordon Karacic (Sarajevo, Bosnia/Northern Oklahoma).

 

Local product, 6’9” post player Tyler Massey (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) will attempt to earn a spot on the team as a walk-on.

 

Junior forward Seth Davis, freshman guard Michael Knight, and junior forward Cory McJimson have signed voluntary withdrawal forms and the former members of the men’s basketball program will not return to UMBC in the fall. Sophomore guard Bobby Fisk will also seek a transfer to another institution to continue his studies and intercollegiate career.

 

Spadafora, a 6’5”, 190-pound swingman, was the Philadelphia Catholic League’s North MVP in 2004-05. He averaged 13.4 points a game in leading the Vikings to their first PCL North regular-season championship. Spadafora finished with 1,183 career points, the No. 3 total in school history behind 1999 grad Tim Whalen (1,302) and 2002 grad Mike Spadafora (1,294), Matt’s brother.

 

Seaborn is a 6’7”, 190-pound forward who attended New Mexico Junior College this past season. He averaged 7.8 ppg and 6.4 rpg and hit nearly 50% (88/180, 48.9%) of his shots from the field. Seaborn is a former Second Team All Public honoree in Philadelphia.

 

Timba stands 6’10” and weighs 255 pounds. He averaged 5.5 ppg and 5.6 rpg at Massanutten (Va.) Military Academy in the 2004-05 season. Karacic will be the tallest Retriever at 6’11”, (240 lbs.)  He competed on the intercollegiate level at Northern Oklahoma College last season after a year at 2004 NAIA champion Mountain State (WV) University (1.8 ppg,)    

 

Fisk earned two letters for UMBC after earning a red-shirt year due to a stress fracture in the 2002-03 campaign. The 6’2” guard from Ravena, New York competed in 17 games in his career, averaging 0.6 ppg.

Davis and McJimson also earned two letters each after transferring from Pierce (Wash.) College. Davis, a native of Pasadena, California, competed in 57 games, starting 24 in 2003-04, but coming off the bench this past season. and averaged 3.4 ppg and 2.9 rpg. McJimson, from San Bernadino, California  also competed in 57 games, starting 28 this season, after 9 starts a year ago, and averaged 8.7 ppg and 4.6 rpg. Knight, from Seattle,Washington, played in 28 of 29 games this season and averaged 4.0 ppg and 0.9 rpg.   

 

The incoming group will join previous signees Jason Greene, Uwem Eshietedoho and Thomas Young on the 2005-06 roster.
