HUSKIES BLAZE THE NETS IN WIN OVER RETRIEVERS IN MEN'S BASKETBALL

Baltimore, MD—Northeastern’s “Big Three” of guards Marcus Barnes and Jose Juan Barea, and freshman forward Shawn James combined to hit 24 of 33 shots from the floor, as the visiting Huskies soundly defeated UMBC, 85-55, before 2,216 at the RAC Arena. NU won its fifth game in the last five outings and improved to 15-8, 11-3 in league play, while UMBC dropped its fifth straight contest and sunk to 9-14, 4-10.

NU led by as many as 33 points in the second half and the closest UMBC cut the margin was to 24 points.
Barnes hit 8 of 12 shots, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc, while Barea was 8 of 13 and dished out 7 assists. James was a perfect 8 of 8 from the floor and rejected 7 UMBC shots. Northeastern hit 31 of 53 field goal attempts (58.5%), including 9 of 18 from behind the arc and 14 of 17 from the charity stripe.
The Retrievers were led by junior forward John Zito, who scored 13 points, and sophomore forward Mike Housman, who tallied 10 points. UMBC hit just 7 of 31 shots (22.6%) in the first half and finished at 33.8% for the game. The Retrievers hit only 1 of 16 from behind the arc.
