UMBC MEN’S HOOPS THREE-GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED AT NEW HAMPSHIRE, 73-64

The UMBC men’s basketball team (9-10, 4-6 AE) saw their three-game win streak get snapped by the University of New Hampshire (7-12, 3-7 AE) on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gymnasium by a final of 73-64.  The Wildcats completed the regular season sweep of UMBC after winning the first contest back on Jan. 2.

 

UMBC fell behind early after taking a 5-2 advantage, the Wildcats went on a 9-0 run as UMBC never led again.  The Retrievers shot 9-of-26 in the opening stanza and trailed 36-23 at halftime. 

 

In the second half UMBC went on a 12-0 run early and closed the gap to 50-47 with 9:37 remaining on the clock, but the Wildcats would score five points in a row and keep UMBC out of striking distance the rest of the way. 

 

John Zito led UMBC with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting while Cory McJimson and Rob Gogerty each scored 12 points.  Rashad Bilal finished with 10 points.

 

UMBC for the game went 25-of-55 from the field, 45.5 percent. 

 

The Retrievers return to action with Vermont at home on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
