SECOND HALF SURGE ALLOWS STONY BROOK TO TOP UMBC MEN’S HOOPS, 61-56

    Stony Brook, N.Y. Stony Brook  used an 18-8 run to start the second half  in their come-from-behind win, 61-56 over UMBC at the Indoor Sports Complex Wednesday night. The Seawolves, who trailed 29-21 at the half, took their first lead of the game at 39-37 with 11:30 to play. Stony Brook would never trail again as it snapped a five-game losing streak to improve to 4-8, 1-2 in America East action while the Retievers slipped to 4-8, 1-2.

    UMBC jumped out to an early 21-9 lead in the first 10 minutes and extended the lead to 29-16 with 6:15 left in the half. SB held the Retrievers for the remainder of the half and cut the deficit to 29-21 at the break.

    Stony Brook's surge continued into the second half as Cori Spencer had six of his game-high 17 points in the decisive 18-8 run at the beginning of the second half.

    The Seawolves held UMBC to only eight field goals on 32 percent shooting in the second half. The Retrievers were led by Kareem Washington who finished with 14 points. John Zito added 12 points while Rob Gogerty and Cory McJimson each had 10.
