Santa Clara, CA--Doron Parker's offensive rebound and dunk with 1.3 seconds remaining gave host Santa Clara (7-5) a 65-63 double overtime victory over UMBC (3-5) at the Leavey Center.

It was the third consecutive year that the Broncos prevailed over UMBC in dramatic fashion. Two years ago, Kyle Bailey's fall-away jumper with a second to play gave SCU a 59-58 win in the Cable Car Classic. Last season in Baltimore, UMBC's Kareem Washington had a short jumper rejected by Jim Howell at the horn in a 55-54 Bronco win. Tonight, Parker rebounded Bailey's driving shot and his follow dunk gave the home team a hard-fought win.

The Retrievers had their chances at the end of regulation and the first overtime to win the game. But Rob Gogerty, who gave the Retrievers a 50-48 lead with 1:23 to play in the second half, missed a jumper after Howell tied the game at 50-all on a dunk with 8 seconds to go. Gogerty also could not convert on a jumper after UMBC called a time out with 14 seconds left in the first extra period.

UMBC took a three-point lead early in the second OT period on a free throw by Andrew Feeley and a bucket by Cory McJimson. But SCU tied the game on an Ethan Rohde three-pointer and built a 63-59 lead. But McJimson cut the lead in half, and Kareem Washington tied the game at 63-all with a pair of free throws with nine seconds remaining. But Perkins, who led SCU with 16 points, sent the fans home with an early holiday gift.

Santa Clara wiped out a 21-15 deficit and scored the final eleven points of the half to lead, 26-21 at intermission. But John Zito scored seven of UMBC's first eleven points of the half and a McJimson layup completed a 15-4 UMBC surge to start the half and give UMBC a 34-30 advantage.

Zito led UMBC with 17 points, while Andrew Feeley reasserted himself in the paint with 13 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. UMBC outrebounded SCU, 42-38, but shot belowe 40% from the field (23 of 60).
