Georgetown cruises past UMBC

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Jonathan Wallace scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half as second-seeded Georgetown topped Maryland-Baltimore County, 66-47, in the first round of the Midwest Regional on Friday. The senior guard sank two 3-pointers in the first half, including one on a 13-0 run that gave the Hoyas (28-5) a 31-17 lead with three minutes before intermission. One of two teams from last year's Final Four to return to the NCAA Tournament, Georgetown added a 10-2 run in the opening minutes of the second half to extend the cushion to 44-26 with just under 15 minutes to play. Roy Hibbert also had 13 points and freshman Austin Freeman added 11 for the Hoyas, who advanced to face No. 10 Davidson in the second round on Sunday. Darryl Proctor scored 16 points for the Retrievers (24-9), the champion from the American East Conference.
