Brian Johnson was named director of men’s basketball operations at UMBC in September of 2012.

Johnson was a standout student-athlete at the prep and collegiate level over the past decade. The local product was the Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year in 2004, leading Mount St. Joseph to league titles in both 2003 and 2004.  The Gaels compiled a record of 89-15 in Johnson’s final three seasons.

The point guard then took his talents to the University of Delaware and put together an outstanding career with the Blue Hens from 2007-11.  Johnson ranks second in Blue Hen history with 3,978 minutes played, third with 510 assists, tied for eighth with 135 three-pointers made, and 26th with 1,017 points.

The Annapolis, Md. native earned his degree in sociology in December of 2011. He served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington, Del. in 2011-12 and the staff guided the squad to an 18-11 record.
