2009-10: Underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in early November… Returned to practice in January, but did not dress or compete in any contests… Will compete as a red-shirt freshman in 2010-11.

 

Background: Named to the Virginia High School Coaches Association Group and the Virginia Associated Press AAA Second-Team All-State boys’ basketball squad after the 2008-09 season… Averaged 14.2 points per game last season and helped the Bulldogs (31-1) win the VHSL boys’ basketball state championship… Buried 63 three-point field goals, hit 73.5 percent from the free throw line, and also averaged six rebounds and 2.3 steals per contest… A First-Team All-Eastern Region, First-Team All-City and a Second-Team All-Tidewater honoree…A three-time First-Team All-Southeastern District selection, as tabbed by The Suffolk News-Herald...  As a junior, he helped the Bulldogs to the Southeastern District tournament title and a berth in the Group AAA state tournament for the first time in the school’s young history… A First-Team All-Tidewater and Second-Team All-Eastern Region honoree as he averaged 17.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and three steals a game in 2007-08… Established school career records for three-point field goals (158), free throws made (384), and points scored (1,701)… Has two older brothers, George (23) and Jeremy (20), and a younger sister, Jasmine (15)… Lists his favorite book as The Giver and his favorite movie as Coach Carter… Son of Monica and George Wertz… Born Nov. 16, 1989.
