UMBC's Jessica Hammond Named Region I Director for National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics

Jessica Hammond, UMBC’s assistant athletic director for academic services, has recently been named Region I Director for the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A). The purpose of N4A is to empower student-athletes to become more productive individuals through educational and personal development.

As Region I Director, Hammond will act as a liaison between Region I and the board of directors for N4A. She will also be responsible for coordinating regional conferences and working with various parties on new NCAA legislation. In her new position, Hammond hopes she’ll be able to effectively provide accurate and timely information to her peers while representing them and their concerns.

Region I extends from Maryland to Maine, mirroring the footprint of the America East Conference.

Hammond has been a valued member of the UMBC athletic staff since arriving in Baltimore in 2003. As assistant athletic director for academic services, she supervises and coordinates the student support services for UMBC’s 19 varsity sports teams. The 1995 University of Connecticutgraduate also oversees student registration and serves as the advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, while acting as a liaison with the campus student support services.  .

Hammond is very passionate about the goals of N4A and her new position in the organization. She wants “voices to be heard” by increasing membership in the region, including two-year institutions.

“As we’re meeting the needs of student-athletes, we’re developing as professionals to ensure success,” Hammond said.
