Baltimore, MD- The UMBC Retrievers (1-3) fell to the West Chester Golden Rams, 3-2 in overtime, in women’s field hockey action Sunday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.  Retrievers Katie Cutchall (Hustontown, Pa./Forbes Road) and Leslie Chilcote (Hustontown, Pa./Forbes Road) combined for all of UMBC’s points in the loss.

After a scoreless first half the scoring picked up in the second when West Chester’s Rachel Lindsey got the Golden Rams on the board, beating Retriever goalkeeper Meghan Polek (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) 2:58 into the second period.

UMBC rallied back just over a minute later when Chilcote fed Cutchall at the 3:43 mark to tie the game at 1-1.  Cutchall’s goal gives her a team-leading three goals on the season. 

Chilcote added her third point of the game on an unassisted goal at the 15:01 marker to give the Retrievers the lead, 2-1.

The Golden Rams, however, fought back down the stretch as Jen MGinley scored with seven minutes remaining in the second half to tie the game 2-2. 

In overtime Lindsey recorded her third point of the game, assisting West Chester teammate Caleen Owens for the game-winning goal at 2:13 into the extra period.

Polek recorded eight saves in the game for the Retrievers who return to action against LaSalle on September 19, at 1 p.m. at Temple University.
