  • Box Score

Baltimore, MD-Junior forward Marie Petran’s goal off a penalty corner with 6:08 remaining in the second half snapped a 1-1 tie and gave visiting Radford (2-2) a 2-1 victory over UMBC (1-2) at rainy UMBC Stadium.

After a scoreless first half, UMBC freshman Julie Moore (Rising Sun, MD) gave the Retrievers a 1-0 lead 5:52 into the second frame. She picked up a loose ball and beat RU netminder Tina Caiazza from 12 yards out. But Radford would tie the game at 1-1 at the 13:38 mark of the half, as Petran centered the ball from the right side, and freshman forward Meredith Evans beat Retriever netminder Meghan Polek from close range.

Petran converted the game-winner after UMBC knocked down a penalty corner attempt from the top of the circle. She pounced on a loose ball and beat Polek to the near right post.

UMBC outshot Radford, 9-8, while the Highlanders enjoyed a 6-4 edge in penalty corners. Caiazza made two saves for RU, while Polek had one for UMBC.
