Towson, Md. – Junior Julie Lambi (Oley Valley H.S./Fleetwood, Pa.) scored one goal and had an assist as the Towson Tigers (2-0) edged UMBC (1-1) by a 2-1 margin at Minnegan Field at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Ashley Bacon (Elkton H.S./Elkton, Md.) gave Towson a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when she scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner. Senior Andrea Schlezes (Mount Pleasant H.S./Wilmington, Del.) and Lambi assisted on the goal. Midway through the second half, Lambi scored an unassisted goal to increase the Tigers’ lead to 2-0. The goal was her second of the season and the 26th of her college career. She is now tied for the Towson University career record with 26 goals.

The Tigers, who outshot UMBC by an 8-4 margin, protected their 2-0 lead until 12:14 remained in the game. At that point, UMBC was awarded a penalty stroke. Sophomore Amanda Heinz (Wilton H.S./Wilton, Conn.) converted the penalty stroke to cut the deficit to 2-1.

However, the Tiger defense stiffened and controlled play for the rest of the game as Towson held on for the victory.

Junior goalkeeper Meghan Polek (Seton Keough H.S./Hanover, Md.) played well for the Retrievers as she made four saves.

Senior goalkeeper Loren Wolf (Lakeland H.S./Shrub Oak, N.Y.) of Towson made three saves in the win.

The Tigers held a 12-2 advantage in penalty corners.
