FIELD HOCKEY FALLS TO QUINNIPIAC, 4-1

10/19/2002

Baltimore, MD—UMBC (5-10, 4-7 NEC) lost their third straight as they fell to Northeast Conference preseason favorite Quinnipiac (10-7, 10-0 NEC), 4-1, Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium. Sophomore Cecile Banas (Gaithersburg, MD/Wooton) scored the lone goal for the Retrievers after successfully putting back a rebounded Wendy Ison (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) shot at 58:28.

Quinnipiac got on the board early when sophomore Chelsea Osbrey (North Kingstown, RI/North Kingstown) scored off a penalty corner just 1:51 into the game. Osbrey would convert another corner to net what would be the game-winning goal just two minutes before halftime to create a 2-0 Bobcat lead. Teammates Jennifer Lucich (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) and Amy Cunniff (Walpole, MA/Walpole) added insurance goals late in the second half to secure the victory for Quinnipiac.
