SIENA SHUTS OUT UMBC FIELD HOCKEY, 3-0

10/6/2002

Loudonville, NY- Senior captain Amanda Flood(Old Tappan, N.J.) scored the Saints' first goal nearly 10 minutes into the first half off a feed from Michelle Dorscheid (Penfield, N.Y.) from the top of the circle helping Siena (4-6/4-4 NEC) to a 3-0 win over UMBC (4-6/3-4 NEC).

The Siena defense held the Retrievers with just one shot until 12 minutes remained in the game. UMBC's best scoring chance came on their one first half shot, but Siena goalie Kristen Heydee (Somer's N.Y.) made a nifty stick save to help preserve her second consecutive shutout.

Junior Erin Mead (Chestertown, N.Y.) got the Saints back on the board 18 minutes into the second half, as she rebounded a Lacee Iselo (Rome, N.Y.) attempt that hit the crossbar. Iselo's near miss came on the heels of an apparent goal she appeared to have scored a minute earlier. That tally was ruled to be a dangerous shot and the goal was taken off the board.

Amanda Fronhoefer (Salem, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring with eight minutes remaining off an assist from classmate Angie Mead (Chestertown, N.Y.).
