FIELD HOCKEY BLANKED BY TOWSON, 3-0

10/2/2002

Baltimore, MD – The Retriever field hockey team fell to the Towson Tigers, 3-0, in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at UMBC Stadium. Towson (7-3, 0-1 CAA) dominated the game, as they outshot UMBC (4-6, 3-3 NEC), 24-2.

Freshman forward Ashley Lobach (Hanover, PA/South Western) tallied what would be the game-winning goal in the game’s 11th minute to give Towson a 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second period, the Tigers recorded nine penalty corners, and was able to convert one as senior Heatherann Schwartz (Mohegan Lake, NY, Lakeland) found teammate Brandi Franks (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) for the goal. Tiger sophomore Julie Lambi (Fleetwood, PA/Oley Valley) would add an insurance goal with less than ten minutes remaining in the game to secure the 3-0 victory for Towson.

Retriever goalkeeper Meghan Polek (Hanover, MD/Seton Keough) stopped 13 shots at the UMBC net; ten coming in the second half.
