Baltimore, MD—UMBC (4-4, 3-2 NEC) extended their winning streak to three games when they defeated Northeast Conference rival Monmouth (3-6, 2-3 NEC) by a score of 2-1 Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium. Leslie Chilcote (Hustontown, PA/Forbes Road) was able to end the 1-1 tie after getting a penalty stroke past Hawk goalkeeper Carrie Colbert (Downington, PA/Downington). Retriever netminder Meghan Polek (Hanover, MD/Seton Keough) stopped all five Monmouth penalty strokes to secure the win for UMBC.

The Retrievers scored first in the contest after senior Wendy Ison (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) gave UMBC a 1-0 lead just 45 seconds before halftime. With 3:14 remaining in regulation, Monmouth senior Kellie Nurko (Robbinsville, NJ/Allentown) would tie the game at one apiece after blasting a shot past Polek. The scored would remain tied throughout both 15-minute overtime periods, forcing both teams into a penalty stroke off.

UMBC returns to action on Sunday when they host NEC foe Rider at 12 p.m. at the UMBC Stadium.
