UMBC FIELD HOCKEY LOSES TO SACRED HEART, 2-0

Fairfield, CT - The Sacred Heart field hockey team picked up their first win of the 2002 season downing Northeast Conference opponent UMBC, 2-0. Junior forward Julie Messenger (Hinsdale, NH) scored her first goal of the year, and what proved to be the game winner, at the 21:46 mark paving the way for the Pioneer victory. Messenger's goal, the 20th of her three-year career, came off a pass in front by sophomore Allison Enderly (Ocean, NJ). Senior Laura Athans (Ocean, NJ) secured the win for SHU, picking up her first goal of the season off the stick of senior midfielder Michelle Bruckner (Carle Place, NY) with 5:19 left in the game.
