10/11/2005

Baltimore, Md.-UMBC’s field hockey game at Georgetown, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 12, has been postponed due to a death in the college field hockey family.

Appalachian State sophomore Julie Nagel passed away Saturday morning from injuries sustained in a car accident on Friday. Nagel was 19 years old.

Nagel was critically injured while traveling to her hometown of Gaithersburg, Md., on Friday, where she was planning to spend ASU’s fall break. She was transported to Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., where she died early Saturday morning.

Nagel was a former teammate of many members of both the Retrievers and Hoyas.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at River Road Unitarian Church in Bethesda, Md.

UMBC and Georgetown have rescheduled the game for Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 3:30 p.m. at the Hoyas' Kehoe Field.
