UMBC’S PAIGE HARTMAN NAMED AMERICA EAST FIELD HOCKEY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

10/10/2005

Paige Hartman earned America East Rookie of the Week honors.

Boston, Mass.-UMBC freshman attack Paige Hartman (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) was named America East Rookie of the Week on Monday for the week ending Oct. 9. Hartman scored a school-record four goals in the Retrievers’ 9-3 victory over Robert Morris on Sunday, tripling her season goals total in one game.

Hartman scored three goals in the first half to help the Retrievers pull away with a 5-3 halftime advantage. She tied the game at 1-1 in the sixth minute, just 29 seconds after the Colonials took the lead, and tallied twice more before the end of the first period, then opened the second-half scoring for UMBC with a goal in the 37th minute.

Hartman set a new UMBC record with four goals and eight points in a game. The previous record of three goals was held by five different Retrievers, most recently Ashly Meehan against Robert Morris last season. Meehan also held the previous record with six points in a single contest.

Hartman leads the Retrievers with six goals and 13 points on the season. She is second in the conference with 0.55 goals per game and sixth with 1.18 points per game.
