FIELD HOCKEY DROPS FINAL GAME OF SEASON TO DREXEL, 4-1

    Baltimore, Md.UMBC finished their season with a 4-13 record as the Retrievers fell to Drexel (8-10) by a score of 4-1 on Senior Day at the UMBC Stadium. Prior to the game, Retriever seniors Cecile Banas (Gaithersburg, Md./Wooton), Leslie Chilcote (Hustontown, Pa./Forbes Road), Meghan Polek (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough), Kristin Ramsay (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel), and Jen Rowe (Elkton, Md./Elkton) were honored.

     

    Drexel took an early 3-0 lead in this match, as junior Amanda Mouser began the scoring at 7:21. Classmate Elizabeth Seidel found Mouser wide open five yards in front of the goal for the easy tally. Exactly 30 seconds later, the Dragons would extend their lead to two after freshman Emily Horvat was able to put back a rebounded shot. Less than three minutes later, Drexel would strike again, this time on a rebound goal by Seidel. The Dragons would go up 4-0 on a tip in by Amanda Mouser at 17:27 and would take that lead into halftime.

     

    In the second stanza, UMBC came out more aggressive and outshot the Dragons, 8-4. The Retrievers were awarded six corner opportunities, but would only convert on one, after sophomore Julie Moore (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) followed up on a rebounded shot by Banas.

     

    For the game, Drexel outshot UMBC, 19-15, while the Retrievers had more corners, 9-5. Polek made 12 saves at the Retriever net, while Drexel’s Kate Dougherty received the win for the Dragons, as she stopped five in 35 minutes of work. Sophomore Krystle Nagle came in at the Drexel net for the second half and stopped two shots.
