Baltimore, Md. – UMBC (4-12, 0-6 America East) scored four unanswered goals in the last thirty minutes, but the Retrievers’ comeback was not enough, as New Hampshire (4-13, 2-3 America East) held on for the 5-4 victory this afternoon at the UMBC Stadium.

Wildcat sophomore Emily Colton began the scoring early when she tallied a goal 4:50 into the match. Less than seven minutes later, freshman Liz Edwards would center a pass, which Colton converted for her second goal of the day. UNH entered halftime, up 4-0, after tallies from Kaitlyn Skelley and Shauna Sellenger at the 22:49 and 25:03 marks, respectively.

In the second half, Wildcat junior Katie White gave her team a 5-0 advantage after converting a five-yard shot just 2:23 into the period. However, UMBC would begin their furious comeback, starting with Kristin Ramsay’s (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) goal at the 40:20 mark. Just over two minutes later, the Retrievers would score again, thanks to a Kristi Troster (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) goal off a UMBC penalty corner opportunity. The Retrievers converted another corner at the 51:55 mark, this time on a goal from sophomore Julie Moore (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun). Ramsay would add another tally less than three minutes later, but UNH would hold off the Retrievers for the final 15 minutes to claim the 5-4 victory.

For the game, UNH outshot UMBC, 21-17, but the Retrievers had more corners, 6-5. Senior Meghan Polek (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough) made seven saves at the UMBC net. Wildcat goalkeepers Christine Buckley (55:15) and Margaux Shute (14:45) stopped three and one, respectively, while allowing two goals apiece.

UMBC will return to action on Friday, October 29, when they host Drexel for their final game of the season.
