NORTHEASTERN DEFEATS UMBC FIELD HOCKEY, 7-0
Northeastern's four seniors made the most out of the Huskies' Senior Day at Sweeney Field. Co-captain Liane Dixon scored three goals and assisted on four as Northeastern beat UMBC 7-0 in an America East contest on Sunday. Co-captain Mari Creatini went off for a pair of goals, Alli Bolster had an assist and goalie Diana Nelson made two saves for the win.
The Huskies improve to 14-2 with the win and move into the lead of the America East standings with a 4-0 league record. UMBC drops to 4-11 on the season and 0-5 in conference play.
UMBC took the first shot of the game, which Nelson dispatched, but didn't get much offense generated thereafter. Creatini scored the first goal of the game with an assist from Dixon at 7:03 in the first half. Ashley Webber made it 2-0 when she took a pass from Dixon and beat sprawling Retriever goalie Meghan Polek for the score at 20:44. With Whitney Shean and Dixon both in front of Polek, Dixon handed the ball off to Shean, who slid past Polek's right side. That made it 3-0 at 34:44 and the Huskies took that score into halftime.
After assisting on all three first-half goals, Dixon netted one of her own at 49:07. She took a pass from Webber and ran through the UMBC defense to get the shot off. Minutes later, Dixon started a penalty corner. Bolster stopped ball and Lauren Edelmeier shot it back to Dixon, who tipped it past Polek.
Less than a minute later, Dixon set up Creatini for a goal at 53:48 to make it 6-0. The Husky offense wasn't done yet, however, as Dixon carved up the Retriever defense once more to net an unassisted goal at 56:52.
