FIELD HOCKEY SNAPS LOSING STREAK WITH 5-1 WIN OVER LONGWOOD

    Ashly Meehan had two goals for the Retrievers.

    Baltimore, Md.The UMBC field hockey team put an end to their four-game losing streak as they defeated Longwood (3-8) by a score of 5-1 in a non-conference match this afternoon at the UMBC Stadium. With the win, the Retrievers improved to 4-7 on the season.

     

    UMBC took control early in the game as freshman Ashly Meehan (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) scored her fourth goal of the season at 1:26 to put the Retrievers up, 1-0. Less than five minutes later, senior Kristin Ramsay (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) grabbed her own rebound and shot it past Longwood keeper Julie Patterson to give UMBC the 2-0 advantage.

     

    Longwood’s lone goal came at the 16:39 mark when Sarah Hitchings found teammate Lorrie Watts, who was able to convert. However, the Retrievers would add to their lead at 33:48 on Meehan’s second goal of the day, to give UMBC a 3-1 lead at halftime.
