FIELD HOCKEY LOSES LEAGUE OPENER TO MAINE, 5-1

ORONO, Maine— The University of Maine field hockey team defeated UMBC 5-1 on Friday
afternoon on Morse Field at Alfond Stadium. The Black Bears improve to 7-3 on the
season and 1-0 in conference play, while the Retrievers fall to 3-5 and 0-1 in
conference play.
5:31 into the first period Maine’s Emily Dooling opened scoring
with an assist from Liz Mendell.Traci Rainone scored the game winner off an assist from
Rachael Hilgar.Meagan Connolly scored Maine’s third goal off an assist from Joanna
Fernandes. Maine’s last two goals were scored by Kasey Spencer both in the
second half the first was unassisted and the second included an assist from Liz
Mendell.
Amy Marrow had UMBC’s lone goal with 5:08 left in the first half. The goal was
unassisted.
Maine’s Jamie Morin received the winning decision in the game with
4 saves. Meghan Polek gets the loss with 7 saves.
