FIELD HOCKEY WINS SECOND STRAIGHT WITH 5-0 SHUTOUT OF ROBERT MORRIS

    Baltimore, Md.Four different Retrievers found the back of the net as UMBC (2-2) won its second straight game with a 5-0 blanking of Robert Morris (0-1) this afternoon at the UMBC Stadium. It was the first match in school history for the Colonials’ field hockey program.

     

    The Retriever offense began the attack early as senior Kristin Ramsay (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) scored her third goal of the season just 5:28 into the game. UMBC freshman Ashly Meehan (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) would extend the lead to 3-0 before halftime as she scored consecutive goals in the 20th and 27th minutes.

     

    In the second period, Retrievers sophomore Julie Moore (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) was awarded a penalty stroke following a UMBC penalty corner. Moore was able to convert for her third goal of the year. Junior Katie Cutchall (Hustontown, Pa./Forbes Road) rounded out the scoring at 64:47 when she managed to get the ball over Colonial goalkeeper Kate Dunlap (Centerpost, Pa./Schuylkill).

     

    For the game, UMBC outshot Robert Morris, 48-0. Dunlap made 22 saves at the RMU net, while teammate Gwen Dalphon (Elkton, Md./Bohemian Manor), who came in with 4:11 remaining, made three.

     

    UMBC returns to action on Wednesday, September 8, when they host Georgetown for a non-conference match to begin at 5 p.m.
