Box Score
Baltimore, Md. – UMBC (1-9) dropped their ninth straight game after falling to Lehigh (6-8) by a score of 2-1 in a non-conference contest this afternoon at UMBC Stadium. It was the fourth time this season that the Retrievers lost by a one-goal margin.
Lehigh’s Blaire Goodwin (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) started things early for the Mountain Hawks, knocking in a pass from teammate Kirsten Wyche (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) during a penalty corner at 4:30. The Retrievers would get numerous opportunities to tie the game as they were awarded four consecutive corners in the 30th minute. However, UMBC could not convert, and entered halftime, down 1-0.
In the second half, Lehigh senior Marissa Iannarone (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) scored what would be the game winner at 38:32. On a penalty corner, Iannarone received a pass just in front of the net, and took two shots before getting the third one past Retriever keeper Meghan Polek (Hanover, Md./Seton Keough).
UMBC’s lone goal was contributed by freshman Julie Moore (Rising Sun, Md./Rising Sun) in the 50th minute after she broke away from the defense and took the ball across the field to score her fourth goal of the season.
The Retrievers travel to Albany on October 18 and to Siena on October 19 before returning home to host Appalachian State on October 22 at 7 p.m.
