Kristy Hartman returns for her sixth year as the UMBC field hockey coach, and third year in the Division I level.
Currently, she is an active player with the Baltimore Field Hockey Association and the Washington Mavericks Hockey Club, and travels regularly for tournament competition year round. In early July, she competed in her first international field hockey match in Kingston, Jamaica. "It was such a great opportunity to raise my individual skills, competing against current and former national level players," said Hartman. "It was tough though, being away from home on the fourth of July, especially after 9-11."
This past summer, she was also able to add to her international coaching experience when she traveled to England and Holland. While overseas, Hartman coached under the Dutch National Team Head Coach as well as several current national team and premiere league players.
Hartman is delighted that the entire Retriever coaching staff had a chance to both coach and play field hockey for the duration of the summer. "This strengthens the name and reputation of UMBC Field Hockey and also broadens the knowledge we bring to the UMBC athletes,” she said. “We are all true students of the game."
Hartman, who played field hockey in high school for the state champion Severna Park Falcons, received a bachelor's degree in Information Systems from UMBC in 1999.
