2005: Started all 16 games for the Retrievers…ranked third on the team with four assists and second with six defensive saves…first career assist came in UMBC’s third game of the season, a 6-2 loss to California…also tied for seventh in the nation in defensive saves and ranked sixth with 0.38 defensive saves per game…first career DSv came against Longwood in the Retrievers’ second game of the season...was named to the America East Honor Roll.
Background: Named All-County Midfield in 2003 and 2004 by the Cecil Whig…named Player of the Week in October 2004 by the Cecil Whig…MVP of her high school team as a senior…All-State nominee in 2004…played in the National Futures Tournament in 2002 and 2005…scored a hat trick in the first half of a game against Elkton, and her team went on to win 3-0…led her team to two state championship titles…her club team, the Strikers, won three consecutive National Championships at the National Hockey Festival and was undefeated in its pool…the Strikers also placed second in their pool three times at the National Indoor Tournament and won the title once, outscoring their opponents 42-2…played against current teammate Rachael Drummonds in high school…also lettered in track at Rising Sun…a member of the National Honor Society and student council in high school…chose UMBC over Bucknell, Colgate, Ursinus, Franklin & Marshall and Drexel…daughter of Roy and Wendy Smith…born Sept. 14, 1987…majoring in biology and hopes to become a pediatric physical therapist.
