David Peel returns for his fifth year as the goaltending coach for the Retrievers.
“Coach Peel's contribution to the program has significantly increased since he first joined our coaching staff,” said Hartman-Mumma. “Although he is our goalkeeping coach, he means much more than that to the entire program. He is an advisor for the defense, another listening ear for the players, and another great promoter of UMBC field hockey.”
A starting goalkeeper from 1998-2000 for UMBC's club team, he made the transition from player to coach when the decision was made to upgrade the sport to a varsity program. Previously, Peel served as an assistant coach at The College of Notre Dame of
Currently, Peel continues to play with the Mavericks Field Hockey Club of Washington, D.C., Baltimore Field Hockey Association, as well as several other field hockey teams in the area. Last year, he spent some time training with the U.S. Field Hockey Men's National Team.
Peel received a Bachelor's degree in Emergency Health Service Management from UMBC in 1998 and currently works for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
