RETRIEVER SENIOR TIFFANY DEINZER FEATURED IN SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE
Retriever senior defender Tiffany Deinzer was featured as the North Coast Alum of the Week on Oct. 1 in the San Diego Union-Tribune. The native of Encinitas, Calif., was a team co-captain and led the nation in defensive saves in 2005.

FIELD HOCKEY NAMES SEVEN PLAYERS TO NFHCA NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD
The UMBC Field Hockey team named seven student-athletes to the 2004 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Squad, which requires a minimum grade point average of 3.3. In addition, the entire UMBC squad received the National Academic Team Award (min. GPA 3.0), as the Retrievers had a fall semester team average of 3.23, with seven players earning 3.5 or higher.
11/20/2009 Men's Basketball Takes to Road to Face George Washington in Saturday Matinee UMBC plays its first road contest of the year and George Washington opens its home schedule as the Retrievers (0-2) and Colonials (2-0) play a Saturday matinee (2:00 p.m.) at the Smith Center. This will be the fourth consecutive year that these two teams have met. The Colonials won, 70-64, on Thanksgiving Eve last season and tied the all-time series at three apiece. Paul Mittermeier has the call of the game, beginning with the pregame show at 1:55 p.m. on Fox 1370 Sports Radio (www.fox1370.com).

11/18/2009 Gilliam Sparks Men's Basketball With 22 Points, But Retrievers Nipped, 69-66, by Loyola Junior guard Jamal Barney scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half as visiting Loyola (2-1) held off UMBC (0-2), 69-66, in the 43rd meeting between the two Baltimore-area schools. UMBC sophomore wing Chauncey Gilliam scored a career-high 22 points to lead the Retrievers. UMCB rallied from a 10-point first half deficit to lead on three occaions in the final three minutes, but could not pull out the victory.
Read More 11/17/2009 Men's Basketball Hopes to Rebound as Loyola Visits RAC Arena on Wednesday UMBC and Loyola played for 20 consecutive seasons a year after the Retrievers joined the NCAA Division I ranks. That streak came to an end after the 2006-07 meeting, but the two schools renew the rivalry in the Retrievers’ second game of the campaign. The Retrievers and Greyhounds tip-off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at the RAC Arena. The game will be televised live by MASN, and Fox 1370 AM (www.fox1370.com) and www.umbcretrievers.tv also will broadcast the action.
