Greensboro, N.C.—Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) added another award to the resume, as they were named to the ABCA (American Baseball Coaches Association)/Rawlings All-East Region Second Team on Wednesday.
Dolshun adds the honor to his America East All-Conference First Team accolades, as well as being named America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player. The New York native finished the year hitting .336 with nine home runs and 13 doubles. He drove in 34 runs with 51 hits, helping the Retrievers to the programs first America East title.
Torres also earned a spot on the second team, after being named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, America East All-Rookie Team and being named Rookie of the Year. The Miami native also earned Freshman All-American honor by Collegiate Baseball last week. He started in every game he played this year, hitting .276 with nine doubles and two home runs.
The Retrievers finished the season at 23-25, earning the program's first America East title after sweeping the field in the tournament. UMBC took down Stony Brook, 3-2 in the opener before dismantling Albany 9-0. In the title game, Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./WT Woodson) drew the walk-off walk to give UMBC a 2-1 extra inning win against Maine for the title.
In the NCAA Regionals, the Retrievers fell 11-3 and 16-2 to host Wake Forest and Maryland to end the year.
