Torres Adds to Postseason Honors; Named Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball

Baltimore, Md. – UMBC freshman third baseman Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) was named to the Freshman All-America Team by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the media outlet announced on Wednesday.

The award adds to the list that Torres has compiled in his first season in Baltimore. Last month, he was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, All-Rookie Team, and earned Rookie of the Year honors. Torres finished his rookie season with the Retrievers hitting .276 with two home runs and 30 RBI. He would hit .375 with a home run and 15 RBI in conference play though.

UMBC finished the year at 23-25, 11-9 AE. They were the number two seed in the America East Tournament, and swept the field in Lowell, Massachusetts to win the program's first ever America East Championship. The championship would give them an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, being selected to the Winston-Salem Regional. They would be eliminated after losses to Wake Forest and Maryland.
