Dolshun Named America East Rookie of the Week; Retrievers’ Mid-Week Contest at Georgetown Postponed
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC freshman Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) has been named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Dolshun, UMBC's first weekly award winner of season, garners the accolade after smashing his first two career home runs. The freshman designated hitter hit .385 (5-for-13), driving in five runs and scoring four more, as UMBC split its four games against Navy and Albany.
In the Retrievers' 8-3 mid-week win over Navy in Annapolis, Md., Dolshun capped a five-run sixth inning with a two-run bomb to left. He also drew a walk in the game.
UMBC then opened America East play at Alumni Field and Dolsun went 1-for-4, knocking in a run, as the Retrievers defeated Albany, 3-2, in the series opener. In game two, the rookie hit his second round-tripper in three games while going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in two and scoring two, as well.
The UMBC baseball team's game against Georgetown scheduled for Tuesday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field has been postponed due to inclement weather in the Baltimore-Washington metro area. The teams have not set a date for a make-up game.
The Retrievers' contest at Maryland at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Wednesday, March 19 is still to be played as scheduled.
