BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team opens its 2011 America East schedule this weekend with a three-game series against Binghamton. The action starts with a doubleheader Saturday at 3:30 p.m., with the finale Sunday at 1 p.m. The first game of Saturday’s twinbill is scheduled for seven innings, while the second game is scheduled for nine.
The Retrievers come into the weekend with a 4-17 record after falling to Georgetown, 12-2, Tuesday afternoon. Senior Austin Drewyer leads the pitching staff with two wins and a 3.72 ERA. He has only walked two batters in 48.1 innings (0.37 BB/9 IP), good enough for sixth in the country. Senior Rich Conlon leads the bats with a .333 average, while junior Max Himmelstein is batting .329 with a home run and 12 RBI. Fellow junior Brian Klukowicz leads the team with 16 runs driven in.
The Bearcats come to Baltimore after sweeping Siena last weekend to improve to 7-15 on the season. Dave Ciocchi leads the team with a .411 batting average, four home runs and 17 RBI, while Corey Taylor has three home runs and team-best 20 RBI. Mike Augliera leads the pitching staff with a 3-2 record and 25 strikeouts in 34.2 innings of work.
