SCOTT KOSMICKY NAMED NEC BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEk; ZACH CLARK IS PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Senior catcher Scott Kosmicky had a terrific week at the plate to win the third NEC Player of the Week award of his career as the Retrievers posted a 2-3 record. Kosmicky batted 10-17 (.588) and hit safely in all five contests. He stroked two doubles and a homer, drove in two runs and scored six runs. In his best game of the week, the Baltimore native went 2-2 with two walks, three runs and an RBI in a 14-3 win over Fairfield. Kosmicky, a senior catcher who was named to the all-NEC first team in 2001, leadsthe Retrievers in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.444), slugging percentage (.630), on-base percentage (.531), hits (12) and runs (seven). Sophomore righthander Zach Clark posted his first victory of the season on Tuesday in UMBC?s 4-2 win over Cleveland State in a game played in Arlington, Virginia. Clark yielded one earned run on five hits over seven innings. He struck out four and walked just one. On the season, the sophomore has posted a 1-1 record and leads all UMBC starters with a 3.18 earned run average.
