CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – UMBC baseball freshman Anthony Gatto (Hauppauge, N.Y./Smithtown West) was named the America East Rookie of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
With the award, Gatto becomes the first Retriever to win the award since Max Himmelstein received the honor in April 2009.

On the hill, Gatto threw two scoreless innings in two appearances, one each against Buffalo and Coppin State.
For the year, the rookie is batting .313 (15-for-48) with six extra base hits, 14 runs and nine RBIs. He also has recorded five strikeouts in just 4.2 innings pitched.
Gatto and the Retrievers have the week off before heading to New Orleans, La. to take on Tulane for a three-game series starting on Friday.
