Baseball Shutout by Cincinnati, 13-0, on Final Day of Wake Forest Invitational

    Tom Gilchrist went 2-for-4 against Cincinnati on Sunday

    WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The UMBC baseball team (0-4) was shutout, 13-0, by Cincinnati on the final day of the Wake Forest Invitational, Sunday afternoon at the Wake Forest Baseball Park.

    Senior Mike Mitchell (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic/Frederick CC) took the loss for the Retrievers, giving up three runs in two innings, and is now 0-1 on the season.

    Cincinnati’s Christian McElroy earned his first career win by throwing five scoreless innings for the Bearcats.

    Junior Tom Gilchrist (Olney, Md./Sherwood/Chesapeake CC) went 2-for-4 on the day for UMBC and is now batting .357 on the year with one homerun and two RBI.

    After taking a 3-0 lead in the game’s first two innings, the Bearcats took hold of the game in the middle innings, scoring ten runs in innings four through six.

    UMBC now returns home to host Army for a three-game series next weekend at the Baseball Factory Field.  Friday’s first pitch between the Retrievers and Black Knights is scheduled for 5 p.m.
