Baseball Falls in Doubleheader at Maine, 4-0 and 11-5, Saturday

ORONO, Maine—The UMBC baseball team fell to America East rival Maine in a doubleheader Saturday, falling 4-0 and 11-5. With the losses, the Retrievers fell to 4-28 (0-11 America East), while the Black Bears improved to 17-21 (7-5).
In the second game, sophomore Jason Allinder (Snow Hill, Md./Snow Hill/Chesapeake CC) hit a three-run home run, his first of the season, but the Black Bears scored in six different innings to win 11-5.
Junior starter Sean Swetnam (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt/George Mason) fell to 1-5 on the year after allowing six earned runs in four innings of work. Jonathan Balentina (2-1) earned the win after only allowing an unearned run in 5.1 innings of relief.
In the first game, sophomore starter Mike Mitchell (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic/Frederick CC) pitched his second complete game of the season, but fell to 1-8 after allowing four runs in six innings of work after Alex Calbick hit a three-run shot to pace the Black Bears to a 4-0 win.
The two teams conclude the four-game series Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
