Baseball Falls to Stony Brook, 13-2, in Series Finale Saturday

    BALTIMORE—The UMBC baseball team dropped the final game of a three-game series to America East rival Stony Brook, 13-2, Saturday afternoon at Baseball Factory Field.

     

    With the loss, the Retrievers fell to 5-26 (0-9 America East), while the Seawolves, sparked by a five-run fifth inning, improved to 26-9 (9-1 AE).

     

    Freshman Rob McCabe (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Joseph’s) hit a two-run single that scored junior Brian Klukowicz (Clifton, N.J./St. Peter’s Prep) and freshman D.J. Smith (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) to prevent the shutout.

     

    Tanner Nivins went 4-for-5 with three runs driven in to lead the Seawolves.

     

    Stony Brook starter Brandon McNitt (5-1) scattered six hits with six strikeouts in seven innings of work to earn the win.

     

    Senior starter Austin Drewyer (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) allowed six earned runs in 4.1 innings of work, falling to 2-6 on the year. Junior Luke DiBlasi (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief.

     

    The Retrievers return to action Wednesday when they host Mount St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. Free hot dogs and chips will be available to all fans in attendance. The game will be broadcast live on UMBCRetrievers.tv.
